What is a Nether fortress?
A Nether fortress is the dark, sprawling brick structure you cross the Nether to find. It is where blazes spawn, where nether wart grows, and where wither skeletons drop the skulls you need to summon the Wither. How to find a Nether fortress
Fortresses generate in every Nether biome, so you are not looking for a specific patch of the map. You are looking for the structure itself: a mass of dark brick crossing open lava, usually visible from a distance because it stands out against the red terrain and the orange glow below.
Travel in straight lines and cover ground. Fortresses are large and spread out, so moving in one direction until you hit a lava ocean gives you the best odds. Long bridges spanning a lava sea are the clearest sign one is close. Build a safe path with cobblestone or nether brick as you go, because a single fall into lava ends the run and everything you were carrying.

Do not mine straight down or straight up near a fortress without checking first. The supports are tall and the drop below them is almost always an open lava ocean. Wall off the edges of any walkway before you fight on it.
