Updated for Java Edition 26.3 (October 2026).
The cherry grove is a pink mountain biome of cherry trees over a carpet of pink petals, found on hillsides and plateaus above plains. It is small and rare, covering 0.14% of the surface in our sample of 300 Java 26.3 seeds, yet 75% of those seeds had one within 2,000 blocks of spawn. Come for cherry wood and petals.
| Dimension | Overworld |
|---|---|
| Where it generates | Mountain slopes and plateaus, mostly above plains and sunflower plains |
| How common | 0.14% of the surface in our sample (about 1 block in 700) |
| Distance from spawn | Median 1,295 blocks; within 1,000 blocks in 38% of seeds, within 2,000 in 75%, within 5,000 in all of them (our sample) |
| Mobs | Pigs, rabbits and sheep, plus the usual hostile mobs at night |
| Notable blocks | Cherry logs and cherry leaves, pink petals; underground, emerald ore and infested stone |
| Structures | Pillager outposts, ruined portals, abandoned camps (26.3); underground, mineshafts and trial chambers. No villages. |
| Climate | Temperature 0.5, downfall 0.8 |
| Biome ID | minecraft:cherry_grove |
| Added in | Java Edition 1.20 (Trails & Tales, 2023) |
How to find a cherry grove
Cherry groves sit on raised ground, but they border lowland far more than peaks. In our sample, a cherry grove’s edge touched plains 56% of the time, sunflower plains 16%, dappled forest 10% and forest 7%; only 4% of the border was snowy slopes. So walk out across plains toward the nearest hills and watch the skyline. The pink canopy stands out from a long way off.

These three Java 26.3 seeds put a cherry grove within 140 blocks of spawn. Each coordinate is inside the grove, checked at block level.

Already in a world? Type /locate biome minecraft:cherry_grove (cheats on) for the nearest one, or paste your seed into the biome finder to see every cherry grove around spawn. These are Java seeds; the same number on Bedrock gives a different world.
Do villages generate in cherry groves?
No. On Java 26.3, no village type generates in a cherry grove: plains villages only use plains and meadow, and the other village types belong to desert, savanna, taiga and snowy biomes. A village can still sit right next to a grove on the plains below it.
Pillager outposts do generate in cherry groves, since outposts can spawn in all mountain biomes. Since Java 26.3, abandoned camps also generate here, with a cherry-wood design of their own.
Cherry wood and pink petals
Cherry trees have curved, branching trunks and pink leaves that drop falling petal particles. Their logs make a full pink wood set: planks, stairs, slabs, fences, doors, trapdoors, signs, hanging signs, boats and the rest. Some cherry trees generate with a bee nest, which gives you an early source of honey.
Pink petals cover the ground under the trees. You can stack up to four petals in one block, and you can pick them up by hand. Cherry saplings grow into cherry trees in any biome, so one trip here is enough to start a farm at home.
Underground, a cherry grove has the same extras as other mountain biomes: emerald ore and infested stone (stone with a silverfish inside), so mine carefully.
Cherry grove vs meadow
Both are flower-covered mountain biomes on the lower slopes, and they often get mixed up. The cherry grove is rarer and further away:
| Feature | Cherry grove | Meadow |
|---|---|---|
| Trees | Dense cherry trees | A few lone oaks and birches |
| Ground cover | Pink petals | Tall grass, flowers and wildflowers |
| Animals | Pigs, rabbits, sheep | Donkeys, rabbits, sheep |
| Villages | No | Yes (plains villages) |
| How common (our sample) | 0.14% of the surface | 0.6% of the surface |
| Median distance from spawn (our sample) | 1,295 blocks | 786 blocks |
If you want a village with a view, look for a meadow. If you want the pink wood, it has to be a cherry grove.
What changed in 2025-26
In Wilderness Bound (Java 26.3, September 2026), abandoned camps can generate in cherry groves, with a cherry grove design. Camp loot can also include a Cherry Grove Abandoned Camp Map, which leads to another camp in a cherry grove.
In The Copper Age (Java 1.21.9, September 2025), a bug was fixed that left cherry groves out of the list of biomes that stronghold placement favors (MC-278965). Strongholds now treat cherry groves like other land biomes.

How we measured
The numbers on this page come from our own seed map engine, running Java Edition 26.3 world generation. We generated 300 random seeds and sampled every 16th block across a 10,240 by 10,240 block square centered on each world’s spawn. “How common” is the cherry grove’s share of those samples; “distance from spawn” is how far the nearest cherry grove sample was. The seeds above were picked from the same run, and each coordinate was re-checked at block level.
